No Five Today (But a quick list)
Hey,
I injured my back carrying bags of dirt/mulch after a long road bike ride, as part of my triathlon training.
Wound up taking the day off work and I’m in too much pain to focus/write well.
As long as I’m emailing you…here’s a quick list of five things I’ve been enjoying as of late.
The Tomorrow War, starring Chris Pratt, was an action packed sci-fi ride. On Amazon Prime.
America: The Motion Picture is the kind of satire that they don’t make anymore—the jokes go at everyone in equal measure, rather than preaching one political agenda. If you’re down for accurate history, this aint for you—as the animated feature opens with Abraham Lincoln (who is unexplainably alive in Colonial America, and George Washington’s best friend) getting his throat ripped out by Benedict Arnold, who isn’t just a traitor who sided with the British—but also a werewolf.
I don’t read a lot of fiction, but I’ve been listening to The Wingfeather Saga, a children’s series from folk singer Andrew Peterson—highly recommended if you like the Chronicles of Narnia/Lord of the Rings.
This conversation with Graham Handcock and Joe Rogan about Handcock’s theory that ancient civilizations were much more intelligent and technologically advanced than we previously thought, was a heck of a thrill ride. I’ll be reading all of Graham’s books before the end of the year.
At this point, Calico Jim by Appalachian singer/songwriter Pony Bradshaw is my favorite album of 2021…it released in January, and just stays in constant rotation for me. Recommended if you like the highly literate songwriting of Bob Dylan, James McMurtry, etc.
Until the next one,
